Isabela State University-San Mariano Campus student leaders took their oath of office as the new officers for various organizations for the Academic Year 2024-2025 earlier today, September 12, at the Agri-Educ Quadrangle.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Kristopher Lopez, Academic Affairs Director, shared a biblical story from Exodus to illustrate the principles of ideal leadership. “As a leader, God is protective, a guardian of His companions and colleagues. God manifests kindness, consideration, and love,” Lopez said.
He also emphasized the importance of obeying and listening to leaders to achieve a more cohesive and successful organization. Moreover, in her message, Dr. Ruby B. Dimas, Campus Administrator, provided inspiring insights to motivate the students toward responsible leadership. “Lead with integrity because your actions set the tone for others to follow. Be a good role model, set a good example, and walk your talk,” she advised. ย She also underscored the necessity of embracing challenges as part of effective leadership.
“Challenges are essential for leaders to succeed. Therefore, you must also possess patience and courage,” she added. Meanwhile, Mr. Midge Seiman Maines, Inducting Officer, offered his wisdom and advice to the new student leaders. “Leadership is not defined by your position or awards. It lies within you, in your values and beliefs,” he remarked.
Maines also noted that facing difficulties and moments of wanting to quit are integral to the leadership journey. He concluded with a reminder that the way one responds to failures will ultimately define their leadership. “You will face failures, but what you do next will define what kind of leader you are,” he said.
