Behind every successful semester, graduation, and student achievement is a series of conversations that shape the future of the campus. At ISU-San Mariano, those conversations took center stage during the Academic Council Meeting held on August 18, 2025.
Far from being just another meeting, the gathering brought together campus officials and faculty members to discuss key academic developments aimed at creating a more responsive, inclusive, and learner-centered educational environment.
Leading the discussion, Campus Administrator Dr. Drolly P. Claravall shared a vision rooted in collaboration and shared responsibility.
“We are rooting for ISU-San Mariano to have a harmonious work and learning environment for both faculty and learners,” she emphasized.
The meeting tackled several important matters, including the approval of candidates for Midyear 2025 Graduation, updates on the Academic Summit, concerns regarding remedial classes and faculty teaching loads, and assessment strategies designed to strengthen student learning outcomes.
One of the highlights of the discussion was the proposed opening of an additional major under the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) Program, presented by SAS Director and Associate Professor Rockangel Jamoral. The initiative reflects the campus’ continuing efforts to expand opportunities and address the evolving needs of students and the academic community.
Beyond policies and programs, the meeting also underscored the importance of values in education. Dr. Claravall reminded educators that learning extends beyond the classroom.
“As educators, we have to instill in our students the essence and value of respect,” she said.
Meanwhile, Director for Academic Affairs Dr. Aisie Bete-Liban highlighted the need to better understand students’ demographic backgrounds and how these factors influence learning outcomes, emphasizing the importance of data-informed and student-centered approaches in education.
As the discussions concluded, one message became clear: building a stronger academic community requires more than plans and policies—it requires people who are willing to listen, collaborate, and innovate. Through dialogues such as these, ISU-San Mariano continues to shape an educational environment where both educators and learners can thrive.
